Around 2:45 a.m., Friday, Feb. 17, firefighters were dispatched to Elizabeth House on Fenwick Lane for a fire in a fourth floor bedroom, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Pringer reported.
The fire was able to be extinguished, but left a resident with smoke inhalation injuries, he said. The resident was transported to a nearby hospital as a "priority 2 patient" for evaluation and treatment, officials confirmed.
Some of the residents evacuated the 12-story apartment complex during the fire, while others sheltered in place.
Several apartments on multiple floors were affected by water damage from the sprinkler system, leaving 15 residents displaced.
The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical failure from an electric cord to a space heater.
The fire caused around $80,000 in damages.
